Tizita

HANI SALIH ︎

Tizita.

To recall and reflect - a sense of nostalgia for times gone by. Tizita translates from Amharic literally to "memory" or "nostalgia". Tizita is perhaps best known as a sub-genre of music originating from a ballad sung, covered and re-imagined by Ethiopian musicians for generations. Themes of longing, lamentation and nostalgia are central to this genre. The music almost always carries within it a timelessness; A bittersweet wonder for times you had never experienced as if they were your own.

A short collage video made from images taken during a trip to Ethiopia in 2019 using a mixture of colour and black and white film.

EASA 2019

Every summer, just under 600 students and young architects come together in a different location in Europe to create everything and anything for two weeks. This is the European Architecture Students Assembly (EASA).

A Super 8 film shot during a short week at EASA 2019, which took place in Villars-Sur-Ollon in Switzerland.

Hamilton House

HANI SALIH ︎

Hamilton House was an important community asset in Bristol. A former office block in Stokes Croft, it was taken on by a community initiative (Coexist) in 2008 and went on to host an array of community organisations, workshops, artist studios and social justice intiatives to name a few - all with the aim of working directly to initate positive social change.

This film was made at a point in time when the future of Hamilton House was in question, as waves of regeneration swept through Stokes Croft.

Shot and edited as part of my undergraduate studies in Architecture programme.
